CHARACTER: nikolai lantsov from leigh bardugo's grishaverse series. i'm caught up on everything tv- and books-wise (shadow and bone trilogy, crows duology, nikolai duology). canon point can be pretty much whenever.
TL;DR: the younger son of the king of ravka, who shipped off for military service and then tutoring, turned engineer and inventor and tinkerer and revolutionary. secretly moonlights as a privateer on the high seas, alias sturmhond. flirtatious and charismatic and perpetually playful, but that tongue-in-cheek demeanour disguises his actually very serious feelings about saving his struggling nation and digging ravka out of the pit. a consummate patriot. as of certain events later in the book series, is also part shadow monster. he's juggling a lot of plates, i know.
BACKTAGGING: always yes! i can be pretty slow during the work week and life is a hellfire, so i will backtag into forever.
WRITING: present-tense prose preferred, but will happily match [ brackets ]
PHYSICAL CONTACT: if his bodyguards let you close enough: yes please! he's a perpetual flirt and very big on loose casual touch.
MENTAL CONTACT: since he keeps his true feelings so close to his chest and only lets the public mask drop in very particular vulnerable circumstances, he will hate it; i welcome it.
FIGHTING/INJURY: sure! he's done his time as a soldier and a pirate, although he isn't excellent as a physical combatant compared to, say, his grisha; nikolai prefers to think and strategise and improvise his way out of problems. (sometimes, he does grudgingly have to set his shadow-monster loose and fight that way, too. thanks, he hates it.)
GENRE INTERESTS: perfect gleaming golden sons hiding darker depths. his perpetual disappointment in his father and brother, who misused their positions. sacrifice and spilling your blood, sweat, and tears in service to a nation that you love. war stories, and the bloodied exhaustion of both the ravkan civil war and the one that came later. spy stories and espionage on his foreign enemies. perpetual low-grade flirtation to hide how much he actually feels. bodyguard and king-and-general feelings with zoya, their trust in each other, and their sharp repartee like they're in a midcentury screwball comedy. maybe that arranged marriage AU for alina; i don't ship it off the bat but it could be interesting as a political alliance that slowly turns to more.
CROSS-CANON: sure! other pirates and seafarers could meet sturmhond; other nobles could meet king nikolai. totally down for mashing together other fantasy canons too. i keep thinking about grishaverse x the witcher: maybe yennefer is installed as the court sorceress in ravka! maybe geralt tries to kill nikolai when he's in monster form! here for so many things.
SHIPS: zoyalai is my fave, but i could be persuaded to other ships (m/f or m/m) with development. cross-canon is also fine. oocly, i'm cool with either ftb or smut, but the latter takes some buildup.
